About me

As I have said on the Home Page, I am qualified and insured to practice as a clinical hypnotherapist and psychotherapist.

I was born and brought up in Portsmouth, and although have moved out of the area a couple of times in my life, this is my home, and always will be.

I started my educational life with an interest in people and the mind.  However, I got married quite young and started a family, so thoughts of taking my career further were put on hold.

When I did return to work, I had to find something that would fit in with my life, and started working in a legal office.  This progressed after some years and I qualified as a Legal Executive, dealing with property law!  Not quite what I had in mind for myself when I was younger!  However, I stayed in this profession for some years.

I then managed to give up smoking in 1999 due to a visit to a hypnotherapist and I was intriged by this.  My interest in the study of the mind resumed, and I decided to look into this further.  After some searching, I came across the International Association of Pure Hypnoanalysts.  I decided to train with them which satisfied my urge to learn more about the way the mind works, and how to help people overcome difficulties in their lives.

As it transpired, with the fall in the housing market, my timing was just right, and when I lost my position within the legal field due to the downturn, I was able to move over to working in Hypnotherapy.

I personally do not approve of the use of Hypnosis for entertainment, as I am asked sometimes whether I “do stage hypnosis”.  I do not.  I believe that this down-values the work that we do as therapists, and gives the wrong impression to those who actually need help in some way.

During my time in training and undertaking this work, I have discovered alot about myself, and others around me.  If I have learned anything in my years as a therapist, I have learned that everyone is different!  There is no standard way to help someone with hypnosis – everyone is an individual and will respond differently to treatment.

One of the major things I have noticed from all my studying and working with people with difficulties, is that WE are the instigators in our lives, and therefore WE are the ones who can change those things which we do not want.  I believe most strongly that WE have that power within us to take control of our lives, we have just lost that belief in ourselves and therefore need a little direction and encouragement!

I have a great interest in what I do, and continue to learn, read, and study all I can about it.

Most people, (yes, even you!), will go through their lives looking for something better, bigger, something more than they have.  Why? Because they believe that their lives will be better if they have that bigger house, that better car, that prestigious job.  And even if we do obtain all these things, we still struggle to be happy, because there may be something still inside of us that is screaming out, wanting to find that “something”.  That something, my friends, is YOU.  We spend our lives chasing our tail and never realising that sometimes we need to just stop, and find ourselves.

Now that may sound a little philosphical and whimsical, but it is not.  We all, at one stage in our lives, question why we are here and what is it we are trying to acheive, dont we?

Most people have very little self-esteem and confidence in themselves, because they have taken most of their lives trying to be perhaps something they are not, or not being true to themselves, and trying to live up to others expectations.  Most people who come to me – for whatever problem they may have at that time – need some help with building their self-esteem and confidence.

The use of hypnosis in therapy can help not only with those day to day problems or long term issues, but also to be able to feel better about ourselves and our lives by showing us that we have the power to take control, we can achieve those things we want, comfort, confidence, acceptance of ourselves, just by directing our thoughts in the right way.  We are the only ones who put limits on ourselves!
