Common questions & what people have said about their therapy

Many people are aware of hypnosis and what it can do to assist people, but obviously there is still some mystery surrounding it and what happens during a therapy session. I have therefore compiled a list below of the most common questions that I am asked, as these may also be the same thoughts that you have before coming to see someone like me!:-

What does it feel like?
Some people will feel physical feelings, such as tingling in their hands and feet, some may feel particularly heavy or light, some people feel a “floaty” sensation, and others feel nothing! Most people just feel extremely relaxed and calm.

What if I can’t be hypnotised?
This is quite a common question. Most people have no trouble entering the hypnotic state, and some will go into a deeper state of relaxation than others, but they will only go as deep as is needed for THEM. It is a very personal thing. The only people who cannot be hypnotised are those who are drunk or drugged, or with severe mental disorders (eg altzheimers). At the end of the first session (which is free). I usually do a short induction into hypnosis so that you can see how easy it is!

Will I know what is going on?
Yes you will. Hypnosis is not an imaginery “sledge hammer”! As I have said above, some people will go deeper than others, but you are always aware of what is going on around you, and always in control. I am just there to help and guide your subconscious to where you need to be. Some people feel that they were not even in hypnosis, but they were!

Will you make me do something I will not remember?
No! You will not “do” anything that is against your moral or ethical standards, and I would not “make” you do anything against your will. That is not possible under hypnosis. Stage hypnotists are able to make people “perform” on stage, but what I undertake is a completely different use of hypnosis. This is therapeutic use for your benefit!

What people have said about their therapy
I have set out below a handful of comments from people who have been through therapy with me, so that you can see what they have felt. These are real people!

Jason, Portsmouth – I came to see Lesley for self-confidence issues, and at the beginning did not think that it would work. I had started a new job where I had to stand up and give presentations and found it really difficult. I kept blushing and stuttering and my throat literally felt like it was closing up whilst I was talking! I saw Lesley on three occasions and she put me at ease. The sessions were great and I have much more confidence in what I do, I do not stutter or blush, and its weird because it has also helped me in other areas of my life. Brilliant!

Brian, Portsmouth – I am a 70 year old disabled gentleman and had been suffering from leg ulcers for over a year. I had to have an operation to help the blood flow in my legs, and following this, the pain was tremendous. I would not have ever considered hypnosis, but an old friend of mine gave me Lesley’s details and I contacted her. Lesley gave me weekly sessions of pain management on both my legs, which reduced the pain so much that I did not have to continue with the morphine that the Doctors had given me! My progress has been much better since then and I am on the mend. Thanks Lesley!

Juliet, Horndean – I went to see Lesley regarding a problem I had had for over 20 years. I had emetophobia, which is a deep fear of being sick or being around people who are sick. Believe it or not I was a carer for older people, and as the years passed, my job was getting harder and harder. I went to see Lesley as a last resort, having been through various other “therapies” and even counselling through my own doctor. After the initial consultation I was already feeling more positive and then attended regular sessions. The therapy brought up an experience from my past which I had totally buried, and I was then able to see it for what it was, and deal with it! What can I say, it has totally changed my life. I have just applied for my first passport and am off to Greece next month! I would never have considered that before in my life! I will be forever grateful.

Dave, Havant – I went to see Lesley to stop smoking. I had tried everything, patches, gum, the NHS but it all failed. In one session she did it. I had been smoking around 20 fags a day for 25 years and she stopped it! Am now feeling fitter and am not eating more. Great stuff.

Wilma, Cosham – I have never had a good relationship with food.  My weight has always fluctuated and I either binge or starve myself.  Lesley really listened to what I had to say and concentrated on my problem areas.  The weight came off easily and healthily and I feel great.  I have hit my goal weight for the first time in years and I am actually really enjoying cooking and eating healthy meals which certainly never interested me before.  The boredom eating has stopped and most importantly I only eat when I am actually hungry.  Fantastic!

Steve, Fareham – After being diagnosed with a chronic illness which caused me to take a lot of time off work, I had a few problems coping with going back to work, particularly when I had a few adverse reactions to my medication.  Lesley helped me with managing this problem and actually taught me how to relax and change the negative way in which I led my life.  She also helped me with pain management issues related to my condition and has helped me to get my life back on track.

Hopefully this information will put your mind at rest. Please telephone or email if you wish to know any more about the process of hypnosis or if you want to make an appointment.
